The Perfect Birthday List

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Pop Culture, Random

So today (November 19) is my birthday! I am now officially 24. Today has been a great day so far! I’ve had about 3 billion people tell me “Happy Birthday” on Facebook, and another 1.67 billion thru text. Today at RH, we had a big Thanksgiving lunch. Great food! We also got our Christmas bonuses. It was over 5X what I expected, so that was a nice surprise. Oh, and RH also gave us an 8 lb ham! How sweet is that? Tonight I’m going to dinner and a movie with my wonderful girlfriend, and I’m sure there are more surprises in store.

Anyway, to have some fun, I thought I would put together a “Hopeful Birthday List.” We all have lists we put together for our birthdays and Christmas with things we want. I thought I’d put something like that together for this birthday, but in a different style. I’m not griping or complaining or being ungrateful for this birthday. This has been an AWESOME birthday. Hopefully you’ll see the fun I’m trying to have.

My Birthday List:

- 10 lbs of fat turned into 10 lbs of muscle

- An MVP for Kurt Warner

- Earmuffs that block out all of the Twilight talk (and now I’ve angered every teen and tween in the world) Read more…

Why Some Christians Need to Quit Whining About the Election

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Ethics, Family, Politics, Pop Culture, Social Injustice

First of all, let me say congratulations to Senator Barack Obama on becoming the 44th President of the United States. Last night was a tremendous day in history, and January 20 will be another historic day when you are sworn into office.

Now that I’ve said that, let me get into a discussion on something I believe needs to be addressed: The whiny attitudes of some Christians the day after the election.

Yes, John McCain did not win the election. There are many evangelicals disappointed today. Disappointment is fine. There is nothing wrong with it. But sour and hateful attitudes? Yes, there is definitely something wrong with that.

I do not agree with Senator Obama on many issues. If you know me at all, you know that is true. There are policies he will put into place that I will not agree with. However, I do NOT have a right to slander him because of those things.

In Romans 13:1-2, Paul wrote, “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.”

I am not arguing you have to agree with everything the president says or does. But, you must be willing to submit to his authority. He is the leader of the United States. He is our leader.

Consider this: Does it make you angry when the liberal media takes cruel shots at President Bush or John McCain or Sarah Palin? What gives you the right to do the same thing to a president you didn’t vote for?

Our country does need “change,” but we can’t expect change to happen if we sit by idly and do nothing. If you really want to see change, do something about it!!! First of all, vote! If you didn’t vote in this election, then close your mouth! Read more…

Not Voting for Obama Does Not Make You a Racist

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Ethics, Politics

Lately, I’ve been struck and sickened by a few things I’ve heard during the political campaigns.

Several weeks ago, a 7th grader in New Smyrna Beach, Florida wore a McCain/Palin shirt to class. Several of her middle school classmates repeated called the girl a racist, and yet the teacher did nothing about it.

Recently, I heard about a girl in Nashville, TN who was engaged in a classroom discussion about the political process. She defended Senator McCain on a few topics. Later on, she was physically attacked by several girls who thought she was a racist for not supporting Senator Obama.

I heard a story yesterday about a college student who was called horrible names because she was white, and that automatically associated her with Republicans and Senator McCain.

There are many more examples I could include. I have personally heard people say that people who vote for John McCain are racists.

Something is completely wrong with this! Yes, our First Amendment rights entitled us to free speech, but they also protect us against slander and libel. Read more…

Here’s a little Friday Halloween fun for everyone. Here’s Frank Caliendo’s take on the Presidential Election. Watch, enjoy, have a great weekend, and eat lots of candy:

The Most Important Issue in the Election

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Ethics, Politics, Pop Culture, Youth Culture

A couple months ago, I asked people what they felt was the most important issue regarding the upcoming election. It was at the start of the housing crisis, and so most of the answers revolved around the economy.

Well, 5 days before the big election, I’m asking the same question again:

For you, what issue will affect your vote more than any other in this year’s presidential election?

Misconceptions About Barack Obama and John McCain

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Ethics, Politics

With the Presidential election just a few days around the corner, things have turned really nasty in the political world. Mudslinging is all over the place. Although the candidates are guilty of their fair share of it, much of it is coming from third-party extremists. Here are a few misconceptions that need to be cleared up:

Barack Obama

1) Barack Obama is NOT a Muslim. He has never been a Muslim, never prayed in a mosque, and never embraced the Muslim faith. Senator Obama is a self-professing committed Christian.

2) Barack Obama was not sworn into the Senate using the Koran. Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Congress, was sworn in using the Koran. Senator Obama was sworn in using his Bible, and the oath was administered by Dick Cheney.

3) Obama is not the Anti-Christ. Sites all over the net are claiming this. These same people have also been pointing their finger at political figures as the Anti-Christ for 30 years.

4) Barack Obama is not an Arab or a terrorist. He was born in Hawaii. His father was a black Kenyan; his mother was a white American from Kansas.

5) If Barack Obama gets elected president, he might not be the first “black president.” Read more…

Joe the Plumber, ACORN, and Other Presidential Lessons

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Ethics, Politics, Pop Culture

Every 4 years when we have a presidential election, we’re often left with words, phrases, and people who become immortalized in pop culture…at least for a few minutes.  Here are just a few of the things we have learned from the 2008 presidential race:

- “Joe the Plumber” is no longer just a bad character for a professional wrestler; he’s now an American icon!

- A “Maverick” is more than a basketball team in Dallas.

- John McCain has a lot of “friends.”

- Barack Obama is closing in on the Guiness record for “uh”s.

- The media has more left turns than a NASCAR race. Read more…

Politics- Not as Dividing as We’re Told

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Ethics, Politics

If you watch any presidential debate or any presidential candidate’s speech, you’re bound to hear a similar theme. Both Barack Obama and John McCain talk about reaching across party lines and representing bipartisan views. They talk about the need to tie both parties together and unite the country as one.

Yet in many ways, by saying those things, they prove they are more out of touch with the common man than they think. You see, I don’t believe our country is as divided along party lines as “Washington” thinks. Read more…

Do “Undecided Voters” Exist?

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Politics

We are only 33 days away from the presidential election, and I constantly hear news channels talking about “undecided voters.” By their definition, these aren’t voters who are leaning slightly to the left or right, these are voters who are stuck dead in the middle of the fence and have no idea who they are voting for.

Last Friday night, after the presidential debate, Read more…
