After hitting the topic of modesty for the last 3 days, I thought I would put something light and fun (but something that causes just as many headaches). With the NFL Draft on Saturday, I thought I would make my own mock draft of the Top 10 picks. This mock-up is assuming there will be no trading done with the first 10 picks, even though I’m willing to be there will be. I’m no expert…just looking to see how close I get to being accurate.

1. Detroit Lions- Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia

2. St. Louis Rams- Jason Smith, OT, Baylor (I’ll take Curry, but if you dare draft Monroe or Sanchez I will be steamed!~)

3. Kansas City Chiefs- Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest (Defense Rookie of the Year)

4. Seattle Seahawks- Mark Sanchez, QB, USC (BUST! Someone might trade into this too)

5. Cleveland Browns- Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech (Especially if they trade Edwards)

6. Cincinnati Bengals- Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia (Not confident his knee will hold up)

7. Oakland Raiders- Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri (Al Davis loves speed! Probably a better returner than WR)

8. Jacksonville Jaguars- B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College (Thankful the drug test rumor was false)

9. Green Bay Packers- Andre Smith, OL, Alabama (Watching him run the 40 shirtless was one of the grossest things I’ve ever seen!)

10. San Francisco 49ers- Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi (No one seems to know how effective he can be in the NFL)

Notable players still on the board:

Brian Orakpo, DE/OLB, Texas

Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU

Post your Top 10. Let’s see how we compare.

One Shining Moment

UNC

Last night was a WONDERFUL night. The North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the Michigan St. Spartans 89-72 to win the NCAA Championship! For those of you that don’t know me too well, I am a lifelong Tar Heels fan. In fact, my parents brought me home from the hospital wrapped in a Tar Heels blanket. I’ve followed the team from as early as I can remember, and I have no plans of stopping anytime soon. In fact, one of my greatest Tar Heel memories was sitting in my grandmother’s living room in Smithfield, NC in 1993 and watching Chris Webber call a timeout…when the Michigan Wolverines didn’t have any.

Congratulations to the Tar Heels and Coach Roy Williams on the incredible victory and championship. It was a great year! And congratulations to Tyler Hansbrough and Danny Green for staying in college for 4 years to win the championship. No matter what happens to them after this year, they set a great standard for future college players.

At the end of each college basketball season, CBS shows a video montage of the NCAA Tournament accompanied by the song “One Shining Moment.” Some say it’s cheesy, but it always brings a tear to my eye. As Greg Gumbel would say, “Now we leave you with ‘One Shining Moment.’”

Earth Hour–Liberal Propaganda or Our Responsibility???

This past Saturday (March 28, 2009) at 8:30 PM was designated as Earth Hour across the entire world. The task of Earth Hour was simple–turn off all your lights for 1 hour.

However, the meaning behind everything went a little deeper. Here’s what the official site, EarthHour.org said about the event:

This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.

For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.

Obviously, the phrase “global warming” raises a red flag to many people. Immediately, we think of Al Gore, liberalism, and truth that is apparently inconvenient.

While Earth Hour is something that is being promoted and endorsed by people that believe in global warming, should it also be followed by people who believe global warming is a hoax?

Christians acknowledge (or at least should) that God created the earth and we have the responsibility to care for His creation. We are called to be good stewards of what He has given us…including resources like water, wildlife, and even energy. It’s all part of protecting what He has given us.

Is Earth Hour something people from both sides of the spectrum can agree on, even if we disagree on the intended purpose?

Or is it something that should be ignored by conservatives who reject the idea of global warming and acknowledge that God is in control of the earth?

If you completely disagree with the idea of global warming, should you turn all of your lights on so your “vote” doesn’t get counted?

Let the debate begin…

My New Year’s Resolutions

Since today is my last day at work before January 5, I thought I would jot down some of my New Year’s Resolutions. Some of you (or all of you) might not care, but it’s a way to let me throw some ideas down and keep myself accountable. If I don’t blog again before Christmas or January 5, I hope everyone has a very great Christmas and New Year’s.

My New Year’s Resolutions

  1. Spend time with God every single day of 2009 (One of the most difficult tasks for me. I usually fail at this by January 7.)
  2. Become a better man (Stronger character and integrity) Read more…
