If you’re a fan of college football, or just a sports fan for that matter, you know that college football has some “issues” it needs to deal with. Yes, the bowls are great (all 3,864 of them), but college football is still lacking in many areas. Let’s face it: college football will NEVER be able to determine an objective winner as well as college basketball and the 65 team tournament. Sometimes the champions are clear-cut, but college basketball still has the edge on “postseason” play,
Looking at this college football season, there is once again great controversy. In the National Championship game, you have 12-1 Oklahoma and 12-1 Florida. Are they the 2 best teams in college football? Up until last week I thought so. Now I’m not so sure!
In the Sugar Bowl, underdog Utah downed Alabama to finish their season 13-0. Since Utah plays in the MWC, they do not get much publicity or get to play profile teams during the regular season. Utah, however, did take down TCU and BYU this year. To add to their credibility, Alabama spent a long time this year ranked #1 in the country, before being defeated by Florida in a very close game.
The Trojans of USC also have an argument. They defeated Penn State to win the Rose Bowl and finish 12-1. During the season, they defeated Oregon, California, and oh yeah…Ohio State. However, they were left out of the National Championship game.
We also can’t forget Texas. The Longhorns defeated Ohio State last night to win the Fiesta Bowl and finish with a 12-1 record. Some of their big wins included Missouri, Oklahoma State, AND Oklahoma! However, because of the polls (aka rankings from some of the coaches) Texas did not get to go to the Big 12 Title game, and in turn, did not make the National Championship.
So who should deserve to play in the National Championship game? Should it be Oklahoma and Florida? Does Utah have a legitimate gripe? What about USC and Texas?
Should Utah be punished for playing a weaker non-conference schedule when teams from the Big 12 and SEC will refuse to play them? Should USC be penalized for playing most of their games on the west coast, after many of the east coast sports writers have gone to bed? Should Texas be shut down because of a few differences in opinion?
Obviously the BCS is flawed. I believe there needs to be a playoff system or at least a “plus 1″ system in order. However, as for now, what we have is what we have. So who deserves to play in the National Championship? Arguments can be made for many different teams. At least 5 teams seem deserving, and can you really say any of those 5 teams are not deserving?
What are your thoughts? Who do you believe deserves to play in the National Championship?

No they shouldn’t. The system doesn’t work that way. If they really want to be the best in the system they’re in, then they have to do everything it takes to get there. And right now, in their conference and with their schedule, it’s not happening.

Well, here’s how I view it. Utah beat Alabama, who was beat by Florida, who was beat by Ole Miss, who lost to Wake Forest, who lost to Maryland, who lost to Middle Tennessee State University, who lost to Troy, who lost to Louisiana-Monroe, who lost to Florida Atlantic, who lost to Arkansas State, who lost to Southern Mississippi. I say all that to say this – Brett Favre went to Southern Miss, which means they’re obviously good since he’s one of the best – if not the best – QB to walk on the field. They beat Ark State, and the dominoes fall. Thus, I see that Southern Miss deserves a shot at the title.
If you don’t agree, that’s fine, but my way makes about as much sense as the current BCS.

Maybe we should just hand the title to Jet Favre and the New York Bretts. Boom!
In all honesty, there has to be some type of playoff system. Eliminate Bowl games for 6-6 teams, and use the extra games for a 6 or 8 team playoff. TV ratings would go up, causing advertising and marketing to increase. The games could be played at a neutral site or it could even be made into a home game for the higher ranking team, like in the NFL, with the National Championship being played at a neutral site. Something has to be done. 5 teams all have legitimate reasons for being there, and NOT being there.

I think the most important thing though is this.
OSU lost again this year.

I assume you’re referring to “THE” OSU?
