Misconceptions About Barack Obama and John McCain

With the Presidential election just a few days around the corner, things have turned really nasty in the political world. Mudslinging is all over the place. Although the candidates are guilty of their fair share of it, much of it is coming from third-party extremists. Here are a few misconceptions that need to be cleared up:

Barack Obama

1) Barack Obama is NOT a Muslim. He has never been a Muslim, never prayed in a mosque, and never embraced the Muslim faith. Senator Obama is a self-professing committed Christian.

2) Barack Obama was not sworn into the Senate using the Koran. Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Congress, was sworn in using the Koran. Senator Obama was sworn in using his Bible, and the oath was administered by Dick Cheney.

3) Obama is not the Anti-Christ. Sites all over the net are claiming this. These same people have also been pointing their finger at political figures as the Anti-Christ for 30 years.

4) Barack Obama is not an Arab or a terrorist. He was born in Hawaii. His father was a black Kenyan; his mother was a white American from Kansas.

5) If Barack Obama gets elected president, he might not be the first “black president.” Two reasons exist for this: 1) Some argue Obama is not “black” per se, but “biracial.” These people argue that calling him “black” is not a proper description because he could just as easily be called “white.”; 2) Some historians believe that former presidents, such as Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln may have had black ancestors.

John McCain

1) John McCain is NOT the Anti-Christ. Yes, this argument exists as well.

2) John McCain and Sarah Palin did not ignored the shouts of “Kill him,” in reference to Barack Obama, at a rally; they never heard them. The FBI investigated and found no proof or substantial evidence that this was said, shouted, or chanted.

3) John McCain did not label himself as a “maverick.” The term was actually given to him by the media, for having a reputation to disagree with his party.

4) John McCain was a POW for 5 1/2 years. It was not just a few days, weeks, or months. The overall imprisonment lasted 5 1/2 years, with physical torture occurring frequently.
