Here’s a little Friday Halloween fun for everyone. Here’s Frank Caliendo’s take on the Presidential Election. Watch, enjoy, have a great weekend, and eat lots of candy:

The Most Important Issue in the Election

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Ethics, Politics, Pop Culture, Youth Culture

A couple months ago, I asked people what they felt was the most important issue regarding the upcoming election. It was at the start of the housing crisis, and so most of the answers revolved around the economy.

Well, 5 days before the big election, I’m asking the same question again:

For you, what issue will affect your vote more than any other in this year’s presidential election?

Where Do You Get Your News?

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Politics, TV

Very simple question today. I guess this could be somewhat election-related. But, I’m just curious…where do you get your news and who do you get it from?

Do you keep it locked on CNN for Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper, and Larry King?

Do you play “hardball” with MSNBC and keep an eye on Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, and Rachel Maddow?

Do you like to keep things “fair and balanced” on Fox News with Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Greta Van Susteren?

Are you only a local news person?

Where do you get your news?

Lessons Learned from Rudy Giuliani, Colin Powell, and Zig Ziglar

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Books, Ethics, Politics

Yesterday I attended the “Get Motivated Conference” at the Sommet Center in Nashville, TN. 24 hours later,  I can’t say that I feel any more motivated, but I did get to hear some great speakers give some great advice. I thought it might be nice to share my notes with whoever cares:

Zig Ziglar

- The most important character trait is truth (integrity).

- You can have everything in life you want if you help enough people.

- Always be learning something new.

- “Accepting Jesus was the best decision I ever made.”

- “I read the newspaper and the Bible every morning, because I like seeing what’s going on with both sides.”

Misconceptions About Barack Obama and John McCain

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Ethics, Politics

With the Presidential election just a few days around the corner, things have turned really nasty in the political world. Mudslinging is all over the place. Although the candidates are guilty of their fair share of it, much of it is coming from third-party extremists. Here are a few misconceptions that need to be cleared up:

Barack Obama

1) Barack Obama is NOT a Muslim. He has never been a Muslim, never prayed in a mosque, and never embraced the Muslim faith. Senator Obama is a self-professing committed Christian.

2) Barack Obama was not sworn into the Senate using the Koran. Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Congress, was sworn in using the Koran. Senator Obama was sworn in using his Bible, and the oath was administered by Dick Cheney.

3) Obama is not the Anti-Christ. Sites all over the net are claiming this. These same people have also been pointing their finger at political figures as the Anti-Christ for 30 years.

4) Barack Obama is not an Arab or a terrorist. He was born in Hawaii. His father was a black Kenyan; his mother was a white American from Kansas.

5) If Barack Obama gets elected president, he might not be the first “black president.” Read more…

89-year-old Steals Football

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Ethics, Sports

Let me take you back to a situation that I’m sure is common with many of you:

When I was growing up, every day after school I would head over to a friend’s house and we would go outside and play baseball or football, depending on what was in season. Next to his house was a large piece of land known as the “common ground.” The property belonged to the county and was available for anyone to use.

As we got older and a little bit stronger, we would occasionally hit a tennis ball that would land in a neighbor’s yard. It wasn’t breaking any windows or shattering furniture. The small rubber tennis ball would simply fly or even bounce over the fence and land in the back yard, only a few feet from the gate.

Some of the neighbors didn’t mind this at all. They enjoyed watching us play and told us we could come through the gate any time to get the balls. If they were in the backyard, they would even throw the balls back to us. No problem, right? Wrong!

One day, after a tennis ball skipped into a neighbor’s backyard, he came out of his house and told us “No more!” Apparently he was sick and tired of us touching his grass or gate handle and so he told us we couldn’t play baseball anymore. In fact, he told us to play the opposite way and put the outfield in the middle of the street. Apparently he preferred to watch us dodge cars while catching fly balls. Read more…

More Family Meals = Less Risky Sex

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Ethics, Family, Food, Pop Culture, Youth Culture

What does your typical dinner look like? Do you sit down as a family and talk about the day? Is there complete silence, with the exception of munching and chewing? Is everyone distracted by what’s on TV? Does it go by unplanned with each individual family member being responsible for finding his or her own food?

A new study shows your meal times could explain a lot about your family and where your teen may be headed. According to the Calgary Herald, the more meals a family eats together, the less chance their teen will be involved in risky sex. Read more…

Joe the Plumber, ACORN, and Other Presidential Lessons

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Ethics, Politics, Pop Culture

Every 4 years when we have a presidential election, we’re often left with words, phrases, and people who become immortalized in pop culture…at least for a few minutes.  Here are just a few of the things we have learned from the 2008 presidential race:

- “Joe the Plumber” is no longer just a bad character for a professional wrestler; he’s now an American icon!

- A “Maverick” is more than a basketball team in Dallas.

- John McCain has a lot of “friends.”

- Barack Obama is closing in on the Guiness record for “uh”s.

- The media has more left turns than a NASCAR race. Read more…

Tampa Bay Rays

Very short blog because of lack of time. Jeremy Crittenden said I should follow up “The Worst Singings of our National Anthem” with “The Worst Singings at our National Convention” but I’m afraid I can’t find those videos.

Anyway, Go Tampa Bay Rays! Beat the Red Sox. Make the Yankees jealous! Join So Taguchi in the World Series!

The Worst Singings of our National Anthem

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Movies, Politics

In honor of tonight’s final presidential debate, I thought I would go patriotic with this post and give you a sample of the WORST performances of our National Anthem. Appearances include Carl Lewis, Roseanne Barr, a cop who is just trying to make his country proud! But just to show it CAN be done well, check out the video above of Whitney Houston singing it at the Super Bowl. If you have any you would like to add to the list, feel free to post the links.
