Oh, Mexico, It sounds so simple I just got to go…

Well, I’m back in the country, back in Nashville, and back at work. Kinda a downward progression. Don’t get me wrong…I love this country, Nashville, and my job…but I wouldn’t mind a few extra days at sea or on the beach. Anyway, to get back in the spirit of blogging, I figured I’d post a few lessons that I learned in Mexico (my cruise went to Progreso and Cozumel).

Lessons Learned in Mexico

1. “Fake” = Junk and “Real” = Fake

Every street salesman thinks you should buy his stuff and only his stuff, and everyone seems to have a gimmick, as was the case with Oakley sunglasses. The “fake” sunglasses were obvious fakes and plastic pieces of junk. The “real” sunglasses were also plastic and fakes, but looked more authentic and said “Made in USA” on the side. I guess they figured if they would admit one set was fake, you might believe the other set was actually real. Riiiiiight!

2. Just because it’s made in Mexico doesn’t mean it’s only sold in Mexico.

I found some Mexican blankets in Cozumel that I really liked. I ended up buying 3 for $10 and thought it was pretty cool I had real Mexican blankets. To my chagrin, I saw the same blankets being sold at another store a few days later…a truck stop 45 miles outside of Nashville.

3. Cannonballs, Jacuzzis, and 5 year olds don’t mix.

4. Those who can’t make it on “American Idol” sing on a cruise ship.

5. You will NOT find NASCAR on ESPN Deportes.

6. The more you eat, the faster you go down the water slide.

7. Mexicans love Dominos, McDonalds, and Starbucks but laugh at the mention of Taco Bell.

8. Yes, even Mexico has Chinese Buffets.

All in all, it was a great trip! Very relaxing! I know I overate. I probably overpaid for my (F)Oakleys. My 2 years of Spanish did me no good. Warm Chocolate Melting Cake is amazing! Can’t wait to do it again soon!

I’ll be back tomorrow, hopefully with something better, but until then…

For your enjoyment, here’s a partial shot of the boat, but more importantly, the amazed look from eating a wonderful dinner on the cruise!

U said overate. I thought u were saying “over rate”. I was really confused about what it was that u over-rated. But I got it now.

P.S. I love cruises, too! Therefore, I know that the real and fake stuff is true in the Bahamas, as well. And I also know that if u have long hair, the island women won’t stop following u around, asking to braid it. I got braids that trip…and there was nothing I could do about it.
