Weekend Wrap-up

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Random

Mondays are rough! I’m tired, maybe slightly cranky (I’m not awake enough yet to tell and it’s 2:31 PM), and ready to go home. I think my eyes have been exposed to radiation from staring at a computer so long! Luckily it’s a 4-day workweek!

So anyway…I had a pretty eventful weekend! Friday night I went to see Wall-E again! That makes 2 times in 1 week. Great movie! Go see it. My review is a few posts below if you’re interested.

On Saturday, my girlfriend and I went to a place called the Pfunky Griddle for lunch (as pictured above). Weird name. Good food. It has an interesting concept. There is a griddle in the middle of the table. Your waitress brings you 2 spatulas, syrup, and 2 containers of pancake batter. One contains Organic Whole Grain and the other Unbleached White. You also get to pick one topping (I picked M&M’s, she picked Read more…

The NBA Draft and Leadership

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Uncategorized

Last night I sat in front of my TV and watched about 4 1/2 hours of the NBA Draft. While the first 15 picks were exciting to watch, I got a little bored once players with 18 syllables in their name started getting drafted from the Congo. However, I continued to watch.

Something that intrigued me even more than the actual picks was the interview with the players after they were drafted. After the top picks were drafted, they sat down with Stephen A. Smith of ESPN for a brief interview. Smith asked every draftee what they could immediately bring to the table for their new team.

While every player took the opportunity to brag on their own skills, every player also mentioned that they would immediately bring leadership to their new team.

This really made me stop and think. How in the world is an 18-22-year-old kid going to bring leadership to an NBA team that is full of adults. Read more…

M&Ms

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Random

So maybe the tag is a lie; maybe they really do melt in your mouth and in your hands. Either way, I love M&Ms! Original, peanut, peanut butter…yep…all good!

Because my mind is filled with random worthless thoughts, I started thinking about the “lost” M&Ms today. You might have no idea what I’m talking about, but let’s take a stroll down memory lane. Read more…

“Wall-E” Review

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Movies, Youth Culture

Well, it happened! I actually got in to see a sneak preview of Disney/Pixar’s Wall-E. I arrived at the theater about 1 hour and 15 minutes before the movie started, and there were already about 80 people in line. But after the long wait, we got what we paid for (well, the tickets were free, but you get the point!).

In typical Pixar fashion, a Pixar Short named “Presto” appeared before the movie started. The short features a magician and his rabbit. I won’t give away any details, but it is quite entertaining and humorous. The 3-5 minute clip was far more entertaining than anything I’ve seen from Dreamworks in the last couple of years.

Anyway, the movie finally started and within a few short minutes, I was already blown away. To be completely honest, the first 30 minutes of Wall-E is the best 30 minutes I’ve ever seen from any animated film. Read more…

Yesterday…All my troubles seemed so far away…

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Movies

Well, I’m not going to post anything elaborate today. If you haven’t checked out yesterday’s blog, DO IT! Sorry, that sounded me. Please check it out. It’s some random humor for random people who like random things. If you’re feeling really nice, leave me a comment.

Tomorrow, I will be back with a new post and a review of the new Disney/Pixar movie “Wall-E.”

I have sneak preview passes to see the movie tonight. However, if the theater is overbooked and I don’t get in, I’m going to post a review of “Good Burger” just to make you mad!

I have really high hopes for this movie! If it’s amazing, I might be back at the theater on Friday night. If it’s garbage, don’t expect me at work tomorrow and be prepared for “Good Burger.”

Randomness!!!

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Random, Youth Culture

Once again it’s time for some absolute randomness taken straight from my sick and twisted mind. Read, laugh, cry, enjoy, comment, don’t collect $200 when passing “Go”:

- If Reese’s wants to promote the new Batman movie, that’s great! I love Batman. I love Reese’s. The new “Reese’s Presents Batman: The Dark Knight” peanut butter cups seem like a great idea…except that all they did was cut part of the peanut butter cup out to make it look like a bat. Not only are you paying the same price, but you’re getting less chocolate and peanut butter! As a guy who loves his peanut butter and chocolate, I will NOT be fooled by this!

- A Yahoo! news headline read something like this:
“Vote of Men May Be Essential to the Election”
Okay, I’m not a rocket scientist by any standard, but doesn’t that statement seem like it should win the “Captain Obvious Award of the Year.” I know what the article is trying to say, but that seems like a rather dumb headline.

- Does Lynne Spears find it weird that her children already have more children than she does?

- It is now cheaper to fill your car with gallons of milk.

- If the NBA Draft was held today…I wouldn’t be drafted. Read more…

Katy Perry- Don’t Invite Her In Your Home!

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Music

If you’re a teenager, you’re probably well aware of Katy Perry. If you’re a parent, you might not be very familiar with the name. Well, if you turn on your radio to any popular station, you’re going to hear Katy’s new single. This song is a moral bomb for youth culture. The song doesn’t have any profanity and vaguely mentions drinking. But there is something even scarier in the lyrics.

Perry’s single is entitled, “I Kissed A Girl.” Read more…

Stuff Christians Like

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Random, Youth Culture

A friend of mine sent me a link to a web site the other day that I have found very humorous, entertaining, and honest. The site is called “Stuff Christians Like” and follows the format of another popular site with a similar title. (If you don’t know what it is, ask around.)

I haven’t had a chance to read the entire list yet, but I plan to. If you get some free time, check out the site. Here are some of my favorites so far:

#292. Eating the homemade VBS play doh

#289. Christian Cheers!! Christian Cheers!!

#287. Father Abraham- the VBS mix tape

If you get a chance, check the site out at http://stufffchristianslike.blogspot.com/ or by clicking here.

Btw, Celtics won. Destroyed the Lakers. Embarrassing!

Is it Friday Yet?

So yesterday I woke up and felt completely dehydrated. If you don’t know what that feels like, imagine having every bit of moisture sucked out of your body. Yeah, that’s kinda how it felt. It made me pretty dizzy and gave me a headache so I called in sick to work…thus no blog.

I did get to watch the 18-hole playoff of the US Open. TIger Woods…well…he is just awesome. The guy basically played with one knee and won the tournament.

Last night I got an email informing me that I had won free sneak preview screening passes for Wall-E. I am way excited about this because I love Disney/Pixar movies. I’ve mentioned the contest to several other people today…and amazingly all of them have been able to get sneak preview passes as well. Either the theater is Read more…

“Third Day” Gets Back to the Basics

Author: DavidJones  //  Category: Music

A friend of mine passed on some very exciting and interesting news yesterday. Christian recording artist, Third Day, was featured on the cover of the June 7 issue of Billboard Magazine. For Billboard to feature any Christian band is a huge deal.

My friend also passed along a review of the new album, “Revelation,” from Relevant Magazine. Read more…
